This area of IDEAS work expertise can, at the client’s request, take information determined from the Well Planning work expertise area and design wells for Exploration, Appraisal or Development purposes on land or offshore utilising Jack-Ups, Semi-Submersible, Drillship, Platform or Retro-Fit drilling rig units. For all cases, the most cost-effective and safest solution is sought with due regard to Life-Cycle / Life of Field loadings / requirements. Once the key subsurface considerations have been determined, analysed and understood, the well / wells can then be designed in the most optimal manner.



CASING DESIGN

Stove Pipe / Marine Conductor; Conductor String; Surface String; Intermediate String; Production String and Liners.




DRILLING EACH HOLE SECTION

Once the optimal casing design to safely contain the well’s pressures has been determined, the optimal hole section diameter, length and angle (if the well is directional) can then be determined. The following key areas are typical of the most important design areas if drilling is to be optimised in a cost-effective and safe manner :



Once the particular hole section has been drilled, cleaned and kept open, casing can be run and cemented.

 


RUNNING & CEMENTING CASING


Once the casing has been cemented in place, pressure tested, the shoe drilled out and the new FIT / LOT value determined, the next successive hole section can be drilled per the above considerations until the well has reached target depth; whereupon the well may be tested, abandoned, suspended or completed. This is the point where further Life-Cycle considerations become paramount and where IDEAS Long-Term philosophy becomes of considerable value to the Operator. The well can be progressed into the completion and production phase if required, and the following areas are typical of IDEAS experience in these areas :-

RIG / EQUIPMENT RATINGS

It is vital that the rig drilling unit and all associated equipment adequately meets the loadings which will be imposed during the drilling of the well. These loadings range from oceano / meteo requirements through to running casing, for example.
